Quick verdict
The world's largest prediction market, now with an ICE-backed balance sheet and a regulated U.S. entity re-opening the door it closed in 2022. Global product: deepest liquidity anywhere, near-zero fees, crypto rails. U.S. product: young, sports-first, CFTC-regulated, and scaling fast. Know which one you're using.
Best for big-event liquidity
What works
What doesn't
How these are produced: review methodology. The overall rating is the average of scored categories.
Written from the record. Polymarket's 2025–26 arc — DOJ/CFTC probes closed, the $112M QCX acquisition creating a licensed U.S. exchange, ICE's investment reaching roughly $2B, an MLB partnership — is the most dramatic institutional turnaround in the category.
On major markets, the sharpest prices in the event-trading world: deep books, tight spreads, and mostly zero platform fees on the global product (gas aside), with select high-frequency markets carrying small taker fees that fund maker rebates. The real cost is spread and slippage in thin books, not fees.
The broadest event catalog anywhere — politics, crypto, macro, culture, sports — with sports now the strategic center of the U.S. product (reported $3.5B notional in June 2026). Depth outside headline markets thins quickly.
Continuous trading through resolution on active markets; exits before settlement are the norm, not a feature.
The global web product is excellent for order-book natives; the U.S. app launched sports-first through a phased rollout (beta reported December 2025, broadly public by mid-2026 — accounts differ). API access makes it the most automation-friendly venue in this review.
Two regimes. Global: USDC only — no fees, no limits, no lockups, but full crypto self-custody friction and no recourse; delayed-withdrawal reports do circulate. U.S. entity: conventional regulated onboarding. The bifurcation is the single most important thing to understand before funding.
Effectively none; the product is the price.
None.
Help center and community-based; adequate for a trading product, with resolution disputes — governed by UMA's bond-and-challenge oracle — the loudest recurring complaint.
An 8.5 with a fork in it. As a global trading venue, Polymarket is the category's liquidity king and priced like a public utility. As a U.S. consumer product it is promising and young, carrying both a CFTC license and the industry's legal headwinds (a Senate bill targeting sports event contracts among them). Size positions to the venue you're actually on.
Use Polymarket if
Traders who want the deepest event-market liquidity in the world and near-zero platform fees, and are comfortable on USDC rails; U.S. sports traders willing to grow with the new regulated app.
Look elsewhere if
Anyone uncomfortable with crypto custody and on-chain settlement on the global product; bettors who want consumer-protection recourse — the global platform offers none to U.S. persons — and resolution purists, since the UMA oracle's disputed calls remain its recurring controversy.
